Green Career Mission Day

I’ve just come out of an inspiring day where students across the 5 universities in Greater Manchester collaborated on challenges set by five companies and organisations across the region connected to progressive green policies and ambitions for Manchester.

Professor Jennifer O’Brien introducing the GMCUA’s Green priorities

Over a three hour workshop session students imagined new ways to engage and recruit stakeholders, businesses and people of the region to existing green goals, and conceived of their own new solutions. The students had never met before and were from different areas of study and at different stages of their education. They collaborated seamlessly, and thought big but nevertheless arrived at practical and daring proposals. New relationships and connections were made between themselves, and across the institutions as a whole.

The event itself was spearheaded by the Civic University Board, Green Skills Working group, led by Professor Jennifer O’Brien of the University of Manchester, and is part of the broader UNESCO programme of Manchester as a City of Life Long Learning.

There is a possibility of follow on events in the coming months which I’ll blog about as and when they arive.
